Abundance: Uncommon
Length:39-42 cm, Wing Span:63-67 cm

Description: Shy pale duck. Grayish-brown overall dappled with yellowish-white spots and bars. Dark patch around eye. Male has a short uneven crest erected during courtship displays.
Behavior: Usually seen in pairs or small groups close to cover. Swims with front part of body held low and tail slightly cocked.
Habitat: Small ponds and marshes bordered by emergent vegetation.
Food: Aquatic vegetation and invertebrates.
Nest: Platform of grass lined with down concealed at edge of water.
Eggs: 46 mm, 7-14, pale cream.
