| Description: | Red-brown upperwing and dangling legs in weak fluttering flight. Pale gray-brown with dark streaks above, light reddish-brown and white bars on flanks, pinkish bill. |
| Behavior: | Extremely secretive; stays in dense cover, constantly giving a rasping two-note call. |
| Habitat: | Mountain steppe, damp meadows, hay meadows, cultivated fields. |
| Food: | Insects, seeds. |
