Description: |
Long sloping forehead and long slender bill. |
Adult (Breeding): |
White head, neck, under body, lower rump, and tail; pink tint on lower breast and belly. Back and wings are pale gray; dark tips on white outer primaries. |
Adult (Non-breeding): |
Small dull ear spot and no pink tint. |
Juvenile: |
Pale brownish ear spot and crown, grayish-brown back contrasts with paler wings. |
Similar Species: |
Differs from Common Black-headed Gull by longer slimmer body, longer bill, sloping forehead, and pale eye. |
Behavior: |
Walks and runs, often feeds by picking food from edge of water, or while swimming in shallows. Gregarious. |
