Adult: |
Pale pink overall with bright, dark pink wing coverts, and black flight feathers. Pink and black bill is short, thick, and sharply curved downward. Pink legs. |
Juvenile: |
Gray-brown overall. Gray bill with black tip, and gray legs. |
Behavior: |
Feeds with head upside-down, often submerged, and turned towards legs; sweeps bill from side to side through water. |
Habitat: |
Shallow wetlands without aquatic vegetation. |
Food: |
Worms, mollusks, aquatic insects, crustaceans. |
